Week of Prayer for Christian Unity January 18-25, 2022

“We saw the star in the East, and we came to worship him: (Mt. 2.2)

Each year between the Feasts of Ss. Peter and Paul, Christians worldwide are invited to join in prayer for unity among all Christians.  Our Lord prayed “that we all may be one,” and while not dismissing those places where we disagree on points of doctrine and theology, our divisions among us are a scandal for the Church.  While we may find disagreement, and strong and important ones in our minds at that, Jesus tells us “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love on another.”  Despite our misunderstandings as we seek the Truth which sets us free, at the heart of our Faith is our Love for one another. Not a sentimental, wishy-washy kind of love, but a real Love poured out on us by the grace of the Holy Spirit which draws us to seek the Good for all.  This week, we pray for all Christians everywhere, that inspired by the Holy Spirit, God’s will that we all be one may find its fulfillment, even now, in Christ Jesus our Lord.
