Bishop’s Message on the Election of the Presiding Bishop
June 27th, 2015
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Greetings from the 78th General Convention of the Episcopal Church! Today the House of Bishops elected and the House of Deputies confirmed the Right Reverend Michael Curry as the 27th Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church. Presiding Bishop-Elect Curry was elected on the first ballot in the House of Bishops with 121 of 174 votes and confirmed with 800 of 812 votes in the House of Deputies. Presiding Bishop-Elect Curry is a very gifted and able leader, a strong man of faith, and a dynamic preacher committed to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I look forward to serving with him in the years to come.
I invite you and everyone in the Diocese of Albany to join me in holding Presiding Bishop-Elect Curry and his family up in prayer. May the Lord guide and lead him in the power of the Holy Spirit, giving him the spiritual strength, wisdom, health, patience, Christian charity and humility he needs to lead the Episcopal Church at this time in history. I pray that the Lord will help Presiding Bishop-Elect Curry to be a reconciling and healing agent not only in the Episcopal Church, but in the wider Anglican Communion and Body of Christ.
Faithfully yours in Christ,
+Bill
